CardMunch, an app relaunched after being bought by LinkedIn is an iPhone app that allows users to digitize business cards. According to Reuters, the app allows users to take pictures of business cards and then the app converts that information into digital contacts. Because of the LinkedIn connection (as mentioned earlier, the company had been bought by LinkedIn), the app also adds additional information to digital contacts from LinkedIn like education history, work history, mutual contacts and profile picture. Sid Viswanathan, who is a co-founder at CardMunch and now a Product Manager at LinkedIn says, "Business cards are the first point of interaction when you meet someone at a conference or event... But imagine a world where you can scan that card and find out everything that LinkedIn has to offer on that particular individual. We're showing you more than what's on that physical card... If you have a stack of cards and you're trying to put a name to a face, this is the first piece of data that LinkedIn can offer to help you solve that."
As smartphone apps keep progressing, more and more business processes are going digital. Another example of an iPhone app, which helps digitize a 'business process' is EasySign, which allows users to digitze signatures. CardMunch is available free for iOS from the App Store. |
