Dell to Pre-install Linux OS on Its PCs

30 Mar, 2007, 4:38 pm IST | by Priyanka Pradhan | Desktops

Dell, the second largest computer hardware manufacturer in the world, has announced its decision to pre-install Open source Linux Operating system in all its PCs.

The PC manufacturer said it will expand support for Linux beyond its existing servers and its Precision workstation line of products. Dell has not released details of which versions of Linux it will use or which computers it will run on, but says it will release further updates on the decision soon. Currently the company only offers Microsoft Windows on its computers, but sells servers running Linux.

The decision is in response to a survey conducted by Dell earlier this year, where more than 70 per cent of the 100,000 Dell users said they would want to use the Linux Operating system on their Dell machines.
