CEIF 2013: Sony introduces new digital imaging range
| by tech2 News Staff |
Sony India today launched nine new DSLT professional cameras, professional video cameras, compact cameras and accessories at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Imaging Fair (CEIF) 2013 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. Some Full-frame Imaging sensor equipped products, such as the DSC-RX1, α99, NEX-VG900 and NEX-FS700K were also launched.
The DSC-RX1 is a compact camera but packs a 35mm full-frame sensor and wide aperture F2 fixed-focal lens into a camera body. Sony elaborates that far smaller and lighter than any full-frame DSLR, the Cyber-shot RX1 offers superb imaging quality that’s previously been the domain of high-end professional DSLR cameras. The unified lens/body design assures razor-sharp alignment of the sensor and optical components. This brings out the full potential of the lens to deliver unprecedented image quality, right to the very edges of each frame. Full manual control options are complemented by effortlessly intuitive operation, making it easy for enthusiasts to realise their creative vision without sacrificing portability or operating comfort. The DSC-RX1 is priced at Rs 1,79,990.
The a99 has a full-frame 35mm image sensor
Sony refers to the new α99 as the world’s first Translucent Mirror camera to feature a full-frame 35mm image sensor. Unique to the α99, a newly developed full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor with 24.3 effective megapixels is teamed with the BIONZ image processing engine. Sony claims that the powerful sensor/processor combination guarantees unprecedented levels of imaging performance with still and video shooting and delivers unmatched sound quality, being one of the assets of Sony. The company has priced it at Rs 1,79,990.
The VG900 has an interchangeable lens
Next up is the NEX-VG900E. This interchangeable lens Full HD camcorder from Sony provides the limitless power of Full-frame imaging with extensive manual controls and ‘seesaw’ zoom lever (Auto Power Zoom). With a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels, the Sony-developed Exmor CMOS sensor inside the NEX-VG900E is around 40 times larger than the equivalent in ordinary consumer camcorders. It’s also more than twice the size of the APS-C sized sensor found in other interchangeable lens Handycam models. The Sony NEX-VG900E is priced at Rs 1,79,990.
The latest additions to Sony’s NEX series are NEX 5R and NEX 6 that provide the imaging power (thanks to APCS size imager, which is the same as in conventional DSLR), shooting responses, handling and operability of a DSLR into an ultra-compact pocket-sized mirrorless camera. Ideal for committed DSLR users looking at travelling light, this camera puts the creative control of a DSLR in a compact body without compromising on the picture quality. Sony has priced the NEX-5R at Rs 39,990 and the NEX-6 at Rs 49,990.
