If you thought that the headline was nothing but gimmicky; then you surely will change your opinion by the time you’re down to the last word of this article.
3D imagery has been a tech enthusiast’s fantasy, but, for now is limited to televisions and monitors. Now, a Fujitsu tech, more precisely a simple smartphone camera lens attachment is all set to make the tables turn, or at least that’s what the brand claims. Cellular News now reports that Fujitsu claims that it has a developed, what it calls a hardware/software combination, which when attached to any smartphone's camera should enable it to record stereoscopic 3D images. Elaborating the process, the report adds - "This is accomplished by affixing a small attachment onto the lens of a smartphone, with the captured images processed via remote (cloud) computing to convert it into 3D content."

According to the report, the company have put into use proprietary video processing technology together with small mirrors located in the attachment to get 3D video from smartphone cameras. Further, the mirror slices the image into two and sends it to the camera lens. Once done, the video is uploaded onto the company's servers. It is in this process that any distortion from the lenses is corrected, along with other cloud-based processing, after which viewable 3D video content is sent back to the user for viewing on a 3D display. The report adds that the entire process makes it possible to reduce the attachment to a mere 57 x 14 x 14 mm, thereby helping in trimming the cost of the technology by a stunning 90 percent, in comparison to those products already in the market.
Fujitsu, according to reports are slated to reveal more on their upcoming tech at the International Symposium on Consumer Electronics (IEEE ISCE), to be held on Monday, June 4, 2012 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the United States.
