Samsung Adds Smart Digicams and Lens to NX Series

14 Apr, 2011, 4:41 pm IST | by Padmini Harchandrai | Cameras

Samsung released lens additions to its NX Series as well as other cameras and camcorders. The new NX lenses are compatible with Samsung's iFunction system which allows users to change functions of the camera with the left hand, keeping the camera pointed at the object.

The NX Series lenses include the following features:
18-200mm F3.5-6.3 ED OIS (Long Zoom Lens) - The lens's auto focus uses Samsung's Voice Coil Motor Technology. The lens also features optical image stabilization.
16mm F2.4 (Ultra Wide Pancake Lens) - Featuring an ultra-wide pancake lens, the aperture of the F2.4 helps to capture wider images in low light and deliver a shallow depth of field.
60mm F2.8 Macro ED OIS SSA (Macro Lens) - Samsung’s new 60mm Macro Lens features a Super Sonic Actuator (SSA) and has optical image stabilization.
85mm F1.4 ED SSA (Premium Portrait Lens) - Has SSA and full time manual focus.
16-80mm F3.5-4.5 OIS (Advanced Standard Zoom Lens) - It has silent auto focus and optical image stabilizations. It includes VCM modes ranging from portrait to landscape.

Samsung also released a range of new cameras and camcorders that included:

SH 100
The SH 100 is a Wi-Fi enabled camera, which means shots can be backed up to a PC with the push of two buttons. DLNA can also be used to connect the camera to an HDTV to view pictures and video right away with Samsung's All Share technology. The Wi-Fi capability also allows you to share images on the social and photo sharing networks, as well as email images to individual email addresses. HD video can be recorded and uploaded to Youtube. The Wi-Fi also allows the Samsung Galaxy smartphone to act as a remote for the camera. If you’re shooting a crowd at say, a concert, you can enable the Remote Viewfinder function, meaning that you can hold your camera high over your head while you can see a preview of the picture in real time on your phone screen. The shutter can be operated remotely as well and the smartphone's GPS capability allows for geo-tagging of images.
