After the success of the Rhythm games (Guitar Hero and Rock Band, for instance), the genre has been seeing a lot of unique and interesting spin-offs. THQ’s Band Mashups is one such game that’s being developed by Planet Moon Studios (who gave us the insane game Armed and Dangerous), and it's going to be a Wii Exclusive. So what’s so unique about this game, you ask? As you can see in the screenshot, there’s a lot more going on here than just button mashing to match notes. The game will allow players to battle each other as they play, using Sniper Violins, Flamethrower Guitars, and god knows what else! This certainly takes the term "battle of the bands" to a whole new level. The thing I liked most about this game is that although they’re licensing just 30 popular songs (spanning decades), the person who’s winning in each battle can change the genre in which the same song is played! He can choose between rock, funk/hip hop, country, Latin, and marching band. |
