Razer's Switchblade is Just a Concept, For Now

| by Roydon Cerejo | Console

Razer recently pulled the wraps off its latest project, codenamed Switchblade, a Nintendo DS-styled portable gaming device. Now, before you start asking “how much does it cost?” , Razer has made it very clear that this concept won’t be going into production, anytime soon, however they will be working with select partners to design products based around the Switchblade, which would make it to the market.

The Switchblade comes with a multi-touch display and although Razer hasn’t mentioned the size, it appears to be 7 inches. The dynamic tactile keyboard changes according to what program is running, for instance if you’re surfing the internet, it will display a QWERTY keyboard and if you’re playing an MMO game, then the keys will change to best suit the game. This is a similar concept to the Optimus keyboard we saw many years ago. Powering the Switchblade will be Intel’s Atom processor (model number is unknown), primarily since it uses x86 architecture, which all PC games are designed for. This way, developers don’t have to bother with porting games. The OS used is Windows 7 and it will also feature Wi-Fi and 3G for multi-player gaming on the move. Other connectors include mini-HDMI, USB 3.0, 3.5mm headphone and microphone jacks. Check out this short clip of the Switchblade in action.
