| AMD's response to Core-Duo at last has been found. It plans to launch its new Turion X2 64 processors - a dual core version of its existing line of mobile CPUs - on the 9th of May 2006. Products featuring the new chips are expected to go on sales soon after this. Clock speeds are expected to start at 1.6GHz and top 2.2GHz. Like current generation Turion chips, the new processors will offer 64-bit software support and are expected to feature 2MB of L2 cache. The launch comes late as Intel's Core Duo hit the market a while back and products with the Core-Duo platform have been out for a while. Funnily enough, Intel has done to AMD what was done to it in the desktop segment where AMD launched ahead of Intel with 64-bit software support, dual-core processors and low costs. |
