Intel’s i7 has been causing waves, ever since the first unofficial benchmarks regarding its performance were released. The product was hinted to be incredibly fast and promised a spectacular performance upgrade over the existing Penryn platform. Well the NDA has now fallen off the new platform and benchmarks/scores have begun to appear all over. The new platform reportedly is divided into 3 sections namely the Intel i7 920, 940 and 965 Extreme, which are clocked at 2.66 GHz, 2.93 GHz and 3.2 GHz respectively.

The new platform brings a lot of changes which includes the addition of a new 8 MB L3 cache, marks the departure of the FSB method of connectivity in favor of a new method called QPI and introduces the new X58 motherboard platform. The cost of the processors has been tentatively fixed at $284 for the i7 920, $562 for i7 940 and $999 for the i7 965.
