Intel’s next row of processors for the desktops are likely to hit markets early next year. They are being called the Sandy Bridge-E processors as of now. If rumours are true, the new line of processors will be sold under a new naming convention - Core i7 3000, similar to the current Sandy Bridge lineup. Some of the processors to be launched are likely to be Core i7 3960X, Core i7 3930 and the Core i7 3830. The Core i7 3960X should be the flagship model, as it's rumoured to be a 6-core, 12-threaded CPU running at 3.3 GHz. Turbo Boost should take the processor right up to 3.9 GHz. Like all of the previous flagship processors, the Core i7 3960X will be likely to be priced at $999. Likely to be here by end of 2011, early 2012
The other two processors, the Core i7 3930 will also be a 6-core processor, but will run at 3.2 GHz with Turbo Boost taking it up to 3.8 GHz. The Core i7 3830 will only be a quad-core processor running at 3.6 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.8 GHz. The processors are said to have a TDP of 130W and are likely to hit next year, although there’s a chance of them making it to markets by the end of this year itself. The new processors will be based on the new LGA2011 socket and the Intel X79 chipset. |
