Intel’s upcoming Sandy Bridge-E processors will not be called Core i8 or Core i9 as per X-bit Labs’ information. Intel already has a whole bunch of processors, sockets and chipsets that have the consumers confused. The new Extreme line of processors will continue using the Core i7 branding. No Core i8 or Core i9, thankfully!
The new processors are slated to launch in the last quarter of the year. There will be at least three of these new Sandy Bridge-E processors launched, two of them 6-core unlocked processors and a quad-core partly unlocked processor. Sketchy details that one of the 6-core core processors with 10 or 12MB of cache will operate at 3.3 or 3.2 GHz. The quad core model will run at 3.60 GHz and will have 10 MB of cache. The new processors will run on a new LGA2011 socket using Intel’s upcoming X79 chipset. The processors have quad-channel memory support as well. Intel is confident that their new line of processors will be able to provide stiff competition to AMD’s 6-core Zambezi processors. |
