Nokia, one of the largest phone manufacturers had decided that they wouldn’t be making phones based on Intel’s microprocessors. The company has announced that it continues to work with many other phone manufacturers on phones based on the x86 architecture. Serious about bringing x86 architecture to smartphones
Intel has been working on their Medfield processor, which is a SoC based on the 32-nm fabrication process. Paul Otellini, CEO, Intel was heard saying that they were putting in resources on other vendors. There were initial rumours that Nokia was planning on launching a smartphone powered by Intel’s Medfield SoC running their Meego OS. Those rumours quickly dissolved as Nokia went the Windows 7 way. Intel continues to push for their Medfield. Otellini suggested that Intel powered phones would land in the market within a year from now.
