Cutting costs by manufacturing your own products has been an age-old tradition which LG might follow now. Instead of implementing smartphone chips from Texas Instruments, NVIDIA and Qualcomm, LG will go the whole nine yards and make their own processors.
Life's Good for me
According to Taipei Times, the Korean company’s move to develop these application processors is perceived as a positive move by certain analysts. Soh Hyun-cheol, an analyst at Shinhan Investment Corp in Seoul feels that LG will benefit by making their own chips, by saving on time as well as costs to induce new smartphone models in the market. He also feels that getting such “key components” within the supply chain itself will give the company an upper hand in beating rivals. If everything goes as planned, LG will be the third handset manufacturer after Apple and Samsung to develop their smartphone processors. You also might know that LG has been using processors by Snapdragon, Texas Instruments and NVIDIA before, which they will certainly ditch if they’re using their custom-made chips. |
