As expected, AMD has started shipping out the new Llano platform to OEMs. The announcement was made on AMD’s Blog. The new A-series of quad-core APUs (Accelerated Processor Units) based on the 32-nm fabrication process. The Llano APUs are the second round of AMD Fusion solutions to shipped after the Brazos earlier this year. Like the Brazos, the APU on the Llano will include an integrated processor, graphics processor and a memory controller. More low-power APUs coming
The Llano platform uses either two or four cores. The Fusion line was first displayed back in the first week of this year at CES 2011. AMD has also worked out a deal with Globalfoundries for the future. AMD will be purchasing between $1.1 to $1.5 billion worth of wafers this year and another $1.5 to $1.9 billion in 2012. Products based on the Llano platform will be made available by manufacturer within this quarter of the year, AMD stated. There is no news of the launch date of the much more powerful Bulldozer processors from AMD though. |
