Asus has officially announced the world's first Sideshow-enabled laptop the W5Fe. For those of you are not aware, sideshow enabled laptops will sport a small screen on the top of the lid, much like clamshell mobile phones. This idea was first conceptualized by Intel and was put forward way back in 2003. Intel calls this new platform 'Newport'. An interesting point to note is that Sideshow is a Windows Vista feature. In terms of specs the W5Fe is a Core 2 Duo laptop running on an 945GM Express chipset. The notebook supports up to 1.5 GB of DDR2 memory, SATA hard drives up 160 GB in size along with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and 802.11a/b/g connectivity options. In case you were wondering what purpose the new screen will serve, Asus has gone on to say the SideShow display can be used to track meeting schedules, phone numbers and emails. The display can also be used to play games, listen to music and serve up other multimedia needs. |
