ITwire has reported that the Blu-Ray camp today got a major reprieve from one of its founding members, Dell, who has updated its multimedia /gaming oriented laptop the XPSTM M1710 and now ships it with a Blu-Ray drive. The option is available to customers worldwide, though it hasn't been extended to other notebooks sold by Dell. This is a good move, as Dell is one of the world's largest PC and peripheral companies and with this inclusion Blu-Ray should find increased mass acceptance. Till now the only thing that was driving Blu-Ray drives, was Sony the founder of the format with its PS3 sales. "Blu-ray optical drive technology has gained broad industry support and we believe it will become the optical drive standard of the future," Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of the Dell Product Group, has been quoted as having said in a statement announcing the new option. |
