Mac Pro refresh to come later next year, confirms Tim Cook

At this year's Worldwide Developers Conference, the focus was on Apple's notebook line-up. Though the brand had silently updated their Mac Pro line of desktops, it had only a slight bump in its specifications and it was so little in comparison to the upgrade for their notebooks, that it did not warrant even a slight mention during the keynote. In a letter to a customer of Apple’s Mac Pro regarding a concern about the Mac Pro refresh, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has stated that Apple was working on an update for that particular line up of Apple’s desktops.

Expect a a sizeable upgrade nexy year

As per a report by Forbes, the letter by Cook reads, “Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today. We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features. We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.”

Though Apple has updated their Mac Pro line up, many have criticized the brand for not providing a significant update to the desktop. Andy Hetzfield, a computer scientist who played a significant part in writing one of the first Mac operating systems has also spoken about the new Mac Pro by stating that the update is, “tiny, inconsequential processor clock bump…The only thing that’s still high-end about it is the bloated price.”

Where Apple has fallen short in offering an upgrade to their desktops, they have more than made up where the notebooks are concerned. The new MacBook Pro Retina display is the world’s highest resolution notebook display with over 5 million pixels, 3 million more than an HD television. At 220 pixels-per-inch, the Retina display’s pixel density is so high that the human eye cannot distinguish individual pixels from a normal viewing distance, so text and graphics look incredibly sharp. The Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree wide viewing angle, and has 75 percent less reflection and 29 percent higher contrast than the previous generation.
