We already informed you about Apple’s refresh of their iMac line of computers. The new iMacs contain Sandy Bridge i5 and i7s, the new Thunderbolt I/O as well as an AMD GPU for those who engage in intense gaming sessions. Image Source: iFixIt
But the most interesting bit among the other revelations was that the GPU board is now detachable. iFixIt states that "With a bit of magic, the GPU heat sink detaches from the logic board, exposing the AMD GPU board". That means buyers need not replace the entire logic board if the GPU in their iMacs fail. The website also discovered that the iMacs use Hynix GDDR SDRAM chips for the AMD Raedeon 6750M/6770M/6970M (depending on the model purchased) and the HDD used on the iMac used for the teardown was the Western Digital Caviar Blue.
