WWDC 2012: Apple silently refreshes Mac Pro line-up as well

| by Aaron Almeida | Desktops

At the Worldwide Developers Conference 2012 keynote that took place yesterday, the main talking point when it came to their hardware was the unveiling of their next generation MacBook Pro. Besides the announcement of Apple’s Mac notebooks, the brand did not mention any other hardware announcements at the keynote. If you are a fan of Apple’s desktop models, saving up to buy one of their snazzy Mac Pro models and was concerned that they had been overlooked this year, then this news should come as neat piece of information. Apple has silently refreshed their Mac Pro line-up by giving them a decent bump in specifications, a report by Engadget states.

Bring me my hammer...

Mac Pro also receives a refresh

Reporting on the specification refresh to the Mac Pro, the website states, “That includes a single 3.2GHz quad-core Xeon processor on the base $2,499 model, which comes paired with 6GB of RAM and a 1TB hard drive, and a pair of 2.4GHz six-core processors on the higher-end model, which gets 12GB of RAM as standard and the same 1TB hard drive for $3,799. The $2,999 Mac Pro Server will give you a 3.2GHz quad-core Xeon with 8GB of RAM and a pair of 1TB hard drives. Notably lacking is the addition of Apple's otherwise standard Thunderbolt ports, or 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity.”

Here is a quick look at the highlighted specifications of the updated Mac Pro models:
Quad-core

  • One 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor
  • 6GB (three 2GB) memory
  • 1TB hard drive
  • 18x SuperDrive
  • ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5

12-Core

  • Two 2.4GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor
  • 12GB (six 2GB) memory
  • 1TB hard drive
  • 18x SuperDrive
  • ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5

Server

  • One 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor
  • 8GB (four 2GB) memory
  • Two 1TB hard drives
  • OS X Lion Server
  • ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5

While Apple has updated their Mac Pro line-up and added various improvements to their MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, they also discontinued the 17-inch MacBook Pro, leaving the 15-inch model as the largest notebook.

As of now, there is no word on the pricing or date of availability of the Mac Pro in India, but we will let you know as soon as any information becomes available. Let us know your thoughts on Apple refreshing their Mac hardware in the comments section below.
