Fujifilm India has announced the launch and availability of the FinePix S200EXR – a 12 megapixel digital camera aimed at top-end enthusiasts.

Kenichi Tanaka, Managing Director, Fujifilm India, said, “Compact, lightweight bridge cameras offering long zoom and high image quality have proved a big hit with those looking for an alternative to bulky interchangeable lens systems. Users of the FinePix S200EXR will find their results equal or superior to DSLRs, principally due to revolutionary design of the EXR sensor.”

A. Rajkumar, Country General Manager (DSC), Fujifilm India, said, “The EXR sensor on the FinePix S200EXR was built to perfectly match the optical qualities of the 14.3x lens. The goal was to produce a sensor/lens combination that works as close to that of the human eye as possible. The EXR sensor is essentially a switchable sensor; changing its complex electronic behaviour to suit the subject, changing its characteristics as the photographer demands, and producing the very best picture without making compromises.”

Users can ‘flex’ the behaviour of the sensor according to the scene to the photographed. When the light is strong and even, the camera can be switched to HR (High Resolution) mode to ensure every small detail is captured. When light is strong but contrast, the sensor can switch to DR (Dynamic Range) mode to get the optimal balance between highlight and shadows. In low light the sensor will switch to SN (High Sensitivity and Low Noise) mode, to ensure clean noise-free pictures even in the darkest conditions. Users can also choose to default to HR, DR or SN mode for consistent shooting using one sensor setting whatever the light conditions may be.

The digicam also has EXR Auto, which allows the camera to automatically detect six different types of scenes - Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night, and Night Portrait. The camera will recognize the scene and not only will optimise focus, colour balance, exposure, flash and sensitivity, but will also automatically switch the sensor to HR, SN or DR mode depending on the lighting conditions of the scene.

Its Fujinon lens achieves maximum resolution at all focal lengths of 30.5mm-436mm equivalent with maximum aperture of a bright F2.8 (wide angle) to F5.3 (telephoto). Because of the composite body and lens structure, there is no need to worry about dirt or dust on the Super CCD EXR sensor.

In the FinePix S200EXR, an identical effect, Pro Focus Mode, is created using new Multi-Frame Technology. A burst of 2 or 3 frames is taken, and by taking the distance information off, the main subject is crisply matted against a defocused foreground and background. Pro Focus Mode is perfect for portrait or nature photography, where professional results are needed quickly with minimal adjustment to the camera without changing results on PC. Pro Low-light Mode is applied to solving the problems of noisy low light shots. Once switched to Pro Low-light Mode, the camera will take burst of 4 high sensitivity images using Pixel Fusion Technology in quick succession. Owing to the Multi Frame Technology, the first, second, third and fourth images are overlapped to create one image with extremely low noise.

The FinePix S200EXR offers five film simulation modes – the Velvia/Vivid mode for rich and luscious landscapes; the PROVIA/Standard mode for excellent, sharp, standard photography; the ASTIA/Soft mode for soft, fine, smooth tonality; the Black and White mode and the Sepia mode.

Other advanced features include the intelligent flash, high contrast LCD that’s viewable even in bright light and at 160 degree angle, multi bracketing, dual image stabilization, face detection with automatic red-eye removal etc.

The Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR is priced at an MRp of Rs. 32,999.
