Toshiba To Ship Standalone HD-DVD Player

Gameindustry.biz has carried a report that the first standalone HD-DVD player made by Toshiba will retail on Nov 15, which is just days before Blu-ray's posterchild, the PS3 launches. Speaking at the recently concluded IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, Toshiba personnel said that the first player to go on sale will be the HD-E1 while a higher end model the HD-XE1 will follow towards the end of the year. The expected price of the HD-E1 is 599 Euros while the HD-XE1 is expected to retail at 1000 Euros. THe difference between the two players is that while the HD-E1 will be able to output both 720p and 1080i the HD-XE1 will be capable of outputting 1080p. |
