Up Coming Handsets to Look Out For

Here are a few more handsets due for launch that we can't wait to review.

Up Coming Handsets to Look Out For

In mobile-dom there’s always plenty to look forward to. Newer designs, funky User Interfaces built on existing operating systems designed to be make functionality so much more... ‘functional’. Cameras are getting a bit better with the pixel count going up and social network integration is the new norm when it comes to mobile connectivity feature sets. So what have we got coming up now? Take a look at a few of the handsets I’m looking forward to getting my hands on.

Nokia E72

I’m still a fan of the Nokia E71 handset. It’s a very well designed handset that easily caters to both a business and social requirement, so naturally I’m presuming the upgrade i.e. the E72 is going to take it up a notch. It features -
  • 2.36-inchTFT LCD – 320 x 240 pixel resolution with 16 million colors
  • Fully QWERTY keypad with an optical trackpad for navigation
  • 3.5mm earphone socket
  • microSD card support
  • Wi-Fi, EDGE, 3G support with HSDPA
  • Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 (micro)
  • GPS with A-GPS (Nokia Maps 3.0) with a digital compass
  • FM radio with RDS
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera (LED flash), secondary VGA
I’m not too crazy about the design I’ll admit, the E71 does look sleeker but as you can see from the features there are a few upgrades to the handset. Let’s just hope it does as well.

B7610 Omnia Pro

Personally I was not that big a fan of the Omina i900. It had its quirks, but having had a chance to play around with some of the newer versions at CommunicAsia that are due for launch soon, I have to admit things look quite good for the series. My personal favorite was the Omnia Pro B7610. It looks good and the slide out QWERTY keypad is very well laid out for ease of typing. Other features include -
  • 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen with an 800 x 480 pixel resolution and 16 million colors
  • 3.5mm earphone socket
  • 1GB internal memory with microSD card support
  • Wi-Fi, EDGE, 3G support with HSDPA
  • Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0
  • GPS with A-GPS and Geotagging
  • FM radio with RDS
  • Samsung DNSe Sound Engine
  • DivX and XviD video playback
  • TV-Out
  • 5 megapixel autofocus camera (LED flash)
Aside from the large keypad the fact that the OS is upgradeable from Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5 makes it something worth looking out for.
