DC and Blizzard to Make WoW Comics

24 Jul, 2007, 2:00 pm IST | Nikhil Singh |

If you want to juice a franchise the right way, learn from Blizzard – it's no hidden truth that World of Warcraft is one of the most successful games out there, so to please its fans (and earn a ‘few’ bucks while doing so) Blizzard has tied up with DC Comics to publish WoW comics. Here’s the scoop from Newsarama.com

“The ongoing monthly series will be written by industry veteran Walter Simonson (Thor, Orion) and feature art by Ludo Lullabi and inker Sandra Hope. The first six issues of the World of Warcraft comic series will each feature two covers, one by superstar comic book artist Jim Lee and a second by Blizzard Entertainment Senior Art Director Samwise Didier.”

The story of the game seems to revolve around a single human, much like many of the Warcraft Books. Here’s a gist of the story from the DC press release -

"The first storyline of the new ongoing series begins when a human is found unconscious on the shores of Kalimdor, with no memory of who he is or how he arrived there. Enslaved by an orc shaman, the man must fight for survival against members of both the Alliance and the Horde. He strikes uneasy relationships with other races in his quest to find the secrets of his past."

Although the idea of the comic seems truly awesome, I didn’t really like the sampled cover artwork (which you can see above). I’ve never really been a big fan of the DC’s artwork, but that’s just my opinion – I’m sure a lot of you like their work.
