2K kicks off pre-order for NBA 2K14; King James to feature on cover

Visual concepts, the developer of the famous basketball video game NBA 2K series, has started taking pre-order for the latest version of the game, NBA 2K14. Featuring the four time MVP LeBron James on the cover, the game will be launched on October 1 in North America and will be available for sale across the globe from October 4.
The game will be released on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are scheduled to be launch titles for the respective consoles; both systems are set for release in 2013.
Jason Argent, Senior Vice President – 2K Sports, the publisher of the game, confirmed that the game will not feature on the Wii U. However, last year's game, NBA 2K13, was a Wii U launch title, but Argent said 2K Sports decided to concentrate its resources on the platforms it announced for NBA 2K14.
The latest edition of the game could feature new skills and new game modes
Talking about its features, Argent said "There is some overlap, they will be very unique, independent, distinct experiences from one another." The current generation versions will be featuring a new mode called Path to Greatness, with the Miami Heats star LeBron James being the cover athlete.
The pre-order pack for PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of NBA 2K14 will include the King James Bonus Pack, which comes with unspecified extra content for Path to Greatness; an unlock of James in Blacktop mode; James' Signature Skill for MyPlayer, the career mode; and 10,000 Virtual Currency for the MyTeam trading card mode.
By featuring on the cover of the longest running basketball video game franchise, James has joined the long list of stars that have come and gone on the cover. NBA 2K10 featured Kobe Bryant in 2009, while NBA 2K11, which was launched in the subsequent year, saw Michael Jordan, the greatest basketball player of all time, on its cover.
Interestingly, NBA 2K12 brought in three legends — Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, while last year, 2K Sports had the three superstars from the modern NBA: Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin on the cover of its game.
