Earlier at E3 this year, The Escapist had noticed a short glimpse of something related to Angry Birds on Activision’s booth screen. It was the Activision logo getting hit by a little red bird, which then exploded into feathers.
"We'll have some news for you in about two weeks," Activision said. "Wait until you see Angry Birds on consoles in HD." Despite the tease in the E3 demo reel, Activision has made no official announcement about the game’s imminent migration to the consoles at the time.
In a follow-up post on Activision’s community blog One Of Swords, the company confirmed its plan to publish “some sort” of Angry Birds on the consoles. “It’s the teasiest of teases, but it is official.”
Now, Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio are being fused together to form the Angry Birds Trilogy for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and 3DS this holiday season. Playstation Move, Kinect, and StreetPass will be available depending on the platform.

It’s supposedly not just a cheap cash in either. It has been “built from the ground up” for the new platforms, Rovio exec Petri Järvilehto told IGN.
"You can think of the game as the ultimate collector’s edition," he said. "There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen."
Järvilehto wasn't ready to say if players would get access to the free level packs iOS and Android players received, but he did say that there would now be individual leaderboards for each level.
"The backgrounds have been animated, we've added lighting modes, reactive backgrounds, the list goes on and on," Järvilehto said. "We believe that there are a lot of people on the consoles who appreciate a great casual game play experience. This is a game that resonates across a wide audience on many platforms." "There have been so many fans asking to be able to play the game on their home console with their friends and family, and so far we haven't been able to offer anything to them," he said. "Now we're finally able to have a great high quality experience on those platforms."
The Angry Birds franchise has seen huge success on the mobile platforms. From its humble origins on the iOS as $0.99 app, it soon saw its way to Android and then eventually to the Playstation Network store, where it became one of the best selling games on PSN. |
