John Carmack recently spoke with PC Gamer on the topic of graphic card manufacturers and game development. He said that both NVIDIA and AMD were making very fast cards and it was almost impossible to go wrong while making a buying decision. Rage can run on Intel's latest integrated graphics solutions
He also mentioned that game developers could be helped by card manufacturers to help optimize games for their hardware. He said that he had closer ties with NVIDIA, and that he had been using NVIDIA cards on his system for a while now, but also said that AMD has been scoring well in graphics card tests on synthetic tests. He also raised the point that when there is good software support for your graphics card, the hardware itself might appear to be better than what it really might be.
Carmack also spoke on the upcoming Rage title, which should be able to run on an Intel integrated graphics solutions. He said that future integrated graphics solutions on processors might be able to compete with discrete graphics cards.
John Carmack is best known for his work at id software and his role in development of games such as Quake and Doom series.
