Metro 2033 was a highly underrated game with a ton of heart. Yes, it was a bit flawed and turned a lot of people off with its difficulty spikes and broken stealth segments but if you stuck with the game, you were treated to a highly atmospheric and utterly gorgeous shooter. If you need further convincing, check out my retrospective where I talk about how wrong I was to judge this game the first time and how it completely bowled me over eventually.

Thankfully the game sold enough to warrant a sequel and that’s exactly what THQ announced today. Here’s the lowdown from THQ’s head honcho Danny Bilson, courtesy of The Escapist, “This game improves on the original in every way - it will have more polish, deeper and more sophisticated gameplay, and satisfyingly visceral combat, without losing what our fans loved about the original. Metro: Last Light is another artful piece of game development from an Eastern European studio that will thrill and terrify anyone looking for a more cerebral experience than your typical first person shooter."

Expect more at E3 2011. In the meantime, check out the teaser trailer that may or may not send you into an epileptic seizure.
