E3 2012: Nintendo spill Wii U details

| by Avinash Bali | Gaming

At Nintendo’s E3 press conference, Nintendo Global President Satoru Iwata dropped a significant amount of Wii U information regarding gaming, connectivity, entertainment and more. There’s also good news for Wii owners, as it seems all Wii games and controllers will be compatible with the Wii U. And you also have the new Miiverse that sounds a lot like PlayStation Home.

Miiverse is a brand-new network communication system that lets gamers from around the world share experiences, discuss games and discover new content. Using their personalized Mii character, players enter Miiverse and see games, applications or entertainment content that either they have interacted with recently, expressed interest in learning more about or that their friends are using or discussing. From here they can challenge their friends to play together, ask a question about a difficult level or discover new elements of their favorite games they never knew existed. After a notable achievement or other share-worthy moment, players can pause their game or application and seamlessly post messages to the Miiverse community.

Wii U be buying the Wii U?

If you do plan on picking up the Wii U for yourself, you can look forward to certain core games, as well. Last night, Nintendo announced Batman: Arkham City, Darksiders II, Ninja Gaiden, ZombieU, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Mass Effect 3 and lots more for the Wii U. Ninja Gaiden and Zombie U are the only games being developed exclusively for the Wii U, but I’m curious to see how the other games you’ve played on your console/PC transition to handheld devices.

Pricing details for the Wii U were nowhere to be found and there’s no mention of a release date as well. We’re hoping Nintendo open up at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS), later this year.
