Square Enix recently announced an iOS port of the Nintendo DS version of Final Fantasy 3. They have now followed it up with the announcement that Final Fantasy V will be hitting the PS3 and PSP as a PSOne classic available on the PlayStation Network. Final Fantasy V first released for the SNES in 1992. It was later, in 1999, localized and released in the western markets as part of the Final Fantasy Anthology, which included Final Fantasy VI as well, for the original PlayStation. It is this version which will be ported and released onto PSN, but it will also gain a couple of extra new cutscenes in the process. ![]() Nostalgia ftw
Final Fantasy V, when it came out, made the famed Active Time Battle (ATB) system a fan favourite, especially because it included improvements like being able to see the player gauge, or the ATB bar as fans call it. This, along with the Job System which allowed great customization for characters’ roles, made it a pretty successful game. Hopefully for Square Enix, there’s still some interest in the game they can capitalize on. |
