Recession/cost-cutting/streamlining staff/re-organization, whatever you want to call it, has raised its ugly head once again hitting multiple companies in the industry. We get word via Eurogamer that THQ have laid off nearly 17 staff members from Kaos Studios and 16 from Volition. Kaos Studios are the guys behind the more recent Homefront and judging from its average performance, it doesn’t come as much of a shocker. Now Volition on the other hand has faced a fair amount of success through their Saint’s Row and Red Faction franchises so it comes as a bit of a surprise, especially when they’re working on three games right now – Red Faction Armageddon, Saints Row The Third and inSANE. Sony has also laid off nearly 205 staff members closing down multiple internal studios in the process. This has severely affected their MMO, The Agency, which has now been officially been cancelled. Instead Sony has announced via IGN that they would concentrate their resources on developing MMOS based on more popular IPs like PlanetSide and EverQuest . |
