Metal Gear Solid movie confirmed

| by Shunal Doke | Gaming

One of the most popular and well-loved game franchises of all time is the Metal Gear Solid series. The game is well-loved for its tactical gameplay, over-the-top story and comic-book styled characters. The series is now headed for the big screen as according to Gaming Everything, Avi Arad is producing a movie based on the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

Rumours of the movie originally started due to a picture which showed the logos of Columbia and the developers of Metal Gear Solid games – Kojima Productions shortly before the Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event. Some argue that the Metal Gear Solid games would be perfect as movies as the games are known to boast cutscenes that last upwards of one hour.

The production of the movie raises some concern among gamers as there has never been a movie based off a video game that has actually been any good. While movies like the Resident Evil franchise do earn a lot of money, the movies are nowhere near as good as the games themselves that offer tense survival horror gameplay.

Earlier this month, we had reported that the next game in the Metal Gear Solid series, simply titled Metal Gear Solid 5 so far, will not see a release before the summer of 2013. Motion-capture actor Erick Bossick said in an interview that he is working with Kojima Productions “on a future Metal Gear” game.

Bossick said in the interview, “My past motion capture session was for upcoming Metal Gear game. I will be back with Kojima again in the fall, and maybe other sessions. This title is a long way off. I am working on a future Metal Gear, not to be released until next year, summer at the earliest, if not later than that. I’m doing motion capture only. I can 100 percent say my voice will not be involved in this. I don’t even know what the title is, they are all very secretive and sometimes even the scenes I act out I don’t even know the full story, because they want to keep it secret.

Though there isn’t any information about a Metal Gear Solid 5 other than this, we’re headed closer towards the release of the spin-off title, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Where Metal Gear Solid is the story of Solid Snake (and in some cases, his “father” Naked Snake), Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be the story of Raiden, the child soldier turned cyborg ninja.

The developer of Metal Gear Rising, Platinum Games, had released a new trailer for the game earlier this month during Gamescom. The trailer shows off some of the over-the-top action sequences that will be in the game, such as hopping on missiles that have been shot at you to get to a helicopter so you can destroy it with your sword. The trailer also mentions some of Raiden’s back story and makes references to him being a child soldier and having been mind controlled.
