Modders discover on-disk DLC on Resident Evil 6, Capcom responds

Recently, a lot of complaints were levelled against Capcom for the inclusion of on-disk downloadable content (DLC) for its latest game – Resident Evil 6 – which was recently revealed by a modder through some videos. According to Eurogamer, Capcom has responded to the presence of on-disk DLC.

Speaking with Eurogamer, a Capcom spokesperson admitted that one piece of Resident Evil 6 DLC requires downloaded data and on-disc data to work, but declined to offer specifics. Based on the information available, this may be the No Hope difficulty. "We still have unannounced DLC for RE6 that will be revealed in the coming months and while virtually all such content will not be on the disc there will be one piece of content, that for technical reasons, requires the use of a combination of newly downloaded data and data that is included on the retail game disc," the spokesperson said.

The company had caught flak for a similar move earlier this year with its fighting game – Street Fighter X Tekken. The game had included many of the characters, which were planned as DLC on the disk of the game, and this had irked players a great deal as the characters were already made and playable and should’ve been included in the game from release without the payment barrier.

Capcom faces criticism for inclusion of on-disk DLC

Capcom had defended this action with the statement: "At Capcom, we value our customers and make every effort to resolve customer complaints," read a statement issued in April. "SFxT has an enormous amount of content, fully developed and available for play and enjoyment immediately on-disc. Given the 38 characters available for full play, as well as multiple play modes, SFxT provides great value for all players from day one.”

"While Capcom is sorry that some of its fans are not happy about the chosen method of delivery for the DLC, we believe that this method will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game's lifecycle."

"There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being 'locked' behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism."

Resident Evil 6 was released on October 2. Early in September, Capcom had announced that the PC version of Resident Evil 6 won’t be trivial. Senior VP of Capcom, Christian Svensson said, "It is a small, but appropriately sized team working on the RE6 PC project. It is a different group than originally planned, lest it would have taken even longer than it currently will but this team will do a better job than what was being considered originally".
