Techland releases new screenshots for Dead Island Riptide

Techland has released new screenshots for its next zombie-murdering game, Dead Island Riptide. The new screenshots show off the new types of zombies, guns, playable characters, and the new environments where you will murder zombies.

The screenshots show places like a marketplace where the characters are taking cover behind some furniture that has been thrown around. Riptide seems to be paying more attention to urban combat than its predecessor, which was based around the 'tropical island holiday' setting.

Publisher Deep Silver revealed the release date for Dead Island Riptide earlier this year. Earlier this month, the company announced a new character named John Morgan who is being added to the current roster of four characters. Along with Morgan, Deep Silver unveiled a new city called Henderson.

Morgan is described by Deep Silver as a master of hand-to-hand combat. “His career in the US Navy has not taken off as he originally envisioned, so he spends his time as a cook on a military ship. Little does he know that soon he will have to bring his skills into practice when the ship nears the island of Palanai.”

The new city, Henderson, was once a pit stop for the wealthiest of travellers. Now, thanks to the zombie outbreak and the destruction caused by the monsoon, the area has been flooded and is falling apart.

Besides the release date, Deep Silver also announced the pre-order bonuses for the game. Pre-orders bundle a version of Dead Island Riptide that will include an exclusive pack of weapon mods that give you manifold ways to do away with the ghastly zombie hordes on the island of Palanai.

Riptide's story takes place right after the events of the original Dead Island, with the four heroes having their escape put to a halt by a tropical storm. The heroes find themselves grounded on the island of Palanai, facing the same zombie horde as they did in the first game, but the zombies have been affected by some unknown mutations this time around.

The first Dead Island is a zombie survival game set on a tropical island. Players pick one of four characters and then go running around the island saving people, killing zombies and doing other stuff heroes in zombie apocalypse stories are supposed to do. You can either play the game solo via the single player campaign or team up with four of your friends to take on the undead. Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customisation of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies, along with a gritty and engrossing campaign. The game also features a crafting system where you can make crazy weapons to use against the undead horde, provided you have the materials and the blueprints required for the weapon.
