Telltale Games releasing The Walking Dead: Episode 3

Telltale Games, one of the few if not the only company that has gotten episodic gaming right, has recently been working on an episodic adaptation of The Walking Dead. The first two episodes are out on the PC, Mac, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The game has been praised by critics for having a good story with great characters and strong writing. According to a blog post by Telltale, Episode 3 of the series, titled The Walking Dead: Episode 3 – Long Road Ahead, has been released yesterday on the PlayStation 3.

The latest episode will automatically download for players who own the Season Pass for the game, which costs $19.99 (roughly Rs. 1,100). Players can also buy each episode separately, with the latest episode costing $4.99 (roughly Rs. 280). The episode will also be available on Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) Wednesday, August 29 for 400 Microsoft Points (roughly Rs. 280) as DLC (downloadable content) within the original The Walking Dead XBLA release and also on PC and MAC as part of a Season Pass on the Telltale Games Store, as well as through Steam and Origin.

Players who have read the graphic novel or seen the TV show will meet familiar characters such as Glenn in the game. There are also new characters who can live or die depending on the choices the player makes in each episode.

The stakes get even higher in episode three as Lee, Clem and the group are forced to move on from the motel. The fallout from treachery within the group will lead to some shocking moments and - depending on the choices you make - one of the hardest things that Lee has ever had to do.

Also mentioned in the blog post is the release of the second episode of the game for iOS devices. The second episode, titled The Walking Dead: Episode 2 – Starved for Help will be available today for $4.99 as an in-app purchase in The Walking Dead app, or the multi-pack bundle that includes episodes 2 to 5 for $14.99.

The first episode for iOS was released last month. The game has been optimised for touchscreen devices, adding in touch controls along with full control of the protagonist Lee and his interaction with the game’s environments, such as investigating objects.

The main story of the Walking Dead universe is that zombies have overrun most of America and a rag tag bunch of survivors must do whatever it takes to survive. The comics tread a very dark path by highlighting some truly unspeakable acts performed by the humans, as opposed to the zombies. Though the game’s tone isn’t quite that dark, there are still glimpses of it in the first episode.
