The Amazing Spider-Man game announced

17 Oct, 2011, 10:49 am IST | by Avinash Bali | Gaming

The Spider-Man franchise is up for a reboot with the Amazing Spider-Man. I’ve seen the trailer and except for the first person Mirror’s Edge inspired parkour bit, I really wasn’t particularly impressed.  A videogame tie-in was inevitable and at Comic Con 2011, Activision announced The Amazing Spider-Man, the game. Now in most cases games based on movies tend to suck but to be fair, the best Spider-Man game was one based on a movie as well. And just like Spider-Man 2: The Videogame, this one will be an open world game where players can navigate New York City fighting crime and cleaning up the streets.

The game will be developed by Activision owned Beenox studios who’re behind the last two Spidey games, Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time. While Shattered Dimensions was well received, Edge of Time was criticised because of its rather simplistic combat system and short campaign. Both issues should be addressed with the move to the open world genre. The game will in all probability release alongside the movie that’s expected to hit theatres by the 3rd of July 2012. In the meantime check out the leaked trailer from Comic Con 2011 that I must admit looks pretty sweet.

Thanks to Gameinformer for the heads up.
