Veteran game developer Yasumi Matsuno, responsible for several classic titles such as Final Fantasy 12 and Vagrant Story, is working on a couple of new titles bearing the Unsung Story moniker. According to Polygon, the games are a digital card game developed by Christophe Boelinger (a French board game designer), and the other is a traditional tactics-styled game titled Unsung Story: Tale of the Guardians.
For the development of the games, Matsuno is teaming up with Playdek, which is better known for developing tabletop games such as Agricola, Ascension and Summoner Wars. The first of Matsuno and Playdek's new games, the card game, will be released some time next year.
Vagrant Story was quite a challenging game
Matsuno's chief role with the new games will be to developing the world in which they take place. The world will be one of medieval fantasy, named Rasfalia, "where knights, wizards, archers and magical creatures roam a lush landscape that holds the secret stories of more than half a century of bloody war."
"In the past, I was deeply involved as director of games," Matsuno told Polygon in an interview, "but this time I wanted to participate in the project as an original story game creator." Earlier, Matsuno has developed world for other games, such as Platinum’s Madworld.
Playdek CEO Joel Goodman has told Polygon that the games are primarily aimed at mobile devices, but digital releases on other platforms is a possibility. Expect it to hit iOS and Android next year. It might also be released on PC eventually.
