Bring about change with Dell

Dell, in collaboration with The University of Texas at Austin’s RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service for the sixth consecutive year has launched the 2012 Dell Social Innovation Challenge (DSIC). Open to the University students across the globe, the competition aims to fuel the entrepreneurial spirit amongst those who have a passion to innovate and solve social and environmental issues. The categories include Economic Development, Education, Energy & Development, Food & Sustenance, Health and Human Rights.

You can create a team and submit your idea, the last day for which is February 13, 2012. For now, you can simply submit your ideas and you can develop them later. If your idea is shortlisted then you will have to develop a detailed venture plan and create video pitch. From these semi-finalists, five finalist teams will be selected. They will then get an opportunity to travel to Austin and pitch their idea in front of an expert panel of judges. The Global Awards ceremony will be held on June 12, 2012, at The University of Texas at Austin and the winning entry will earn $750,000 in prize. Apart from the Grand Prize Award, which will be decided upon by a panel of experts, for the first time there also 17 special People’s Choice Awards that will be decided by online voters.    

 

The 2011 edition saw participation form nearly 1,500 teams from 85 countries, with Indian students accounting for largest number of entries outside of the U.S. An Indian team SIFE CBS from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, received third prize for their project Sanitations Solutions. The competition is also a great platform for students to interact with global community of mentors and social innovators. To learn more visit www.dellchallenge.org.
