BSNL warehouse goes up in flames, company incurs loss of Rs 40 crores
A warehouse of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in the outskirts of Shillong was torched leading to a property damage that amounts to Rs 40 crores. Pro-Inner permit activists are suspected to be responsible for this act.
The BSNL warehouse caught fire at midnight, and fire-fighters were busy dousing the flames until early hours this morning, said the police. Until now, the exact reason for the fire is not known. However, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M Kharkrang has not ruled out the involvement of pro-ILP activists.
Gone up in flames
It was further disclosed that people staying around the warehouse heard an explosion at midnight, and saw that it was already up in flames as they reached the place. BSNL officials have estimated a loss of 40 crores as telecom equipment and mobile tower material have also been damaged. The police is still investigating the cause of the fire.
On the other hand, there are reports stating that pro-ILP activists in Meghalaya have announced road blockade for three nights starting today from 7 pm to 5 am. This blockade is announced for the immediate implementation of the ILP and against the state government's tough stand against the activists. The state government is reportedly setting up a special court to deal with such disruption of public order.
