In an effort to help connect the older generation with their grand children, Nokia’s Research Centre has teamed up with the creators of Sesame Street in a joint project. The project involves a remote connectivity feature that incorporates shared play and reading. Using simple video conference technology via a pair of handsets, children will be able to see and hear their grandparents read them stories and be entertained by Elmo who reacts to the stories as their read. One screen is designed to be the monitor for both parties to see and hear each other and the secondary display is for Elmo to do his thing. The system is also set up with a space to house a book for both parties. Pages turned sound off as a ping so that the opposite party will know when to turn theirs and keep track. T he idea behind all of this is to help promote and improve child literacy through engaged interaction. It’s both innovative and very family oriented to help strengthen the bond between the two generations who may not live under the same roof. |
