Complaints against pesky calls decrease

26 Nov, 2011, 10:57 am IST | by Naina Khedekar | General

Over the past few months, TRAI has been adopting several means to keep pesky calls by telemarketers, at bay. In spite of the 200SMS/day initiative, telemarketers resorted to servers overseas. Although, TRAI had no control over such calls, it had decided to find a solution along with the telcos to even this. Some time back, TRAI finally disclosed that telcos should find and block such violators. According to DNA, the government has announced that the number of complaints against such calls has declined. This piece of news could come as a relief to many users and also TRAI.

Telecom customers have to subscribe to the National Customer Preference Registry, which was earlier known as the National Do Not Call Registry. There are no complaints regarding the refusal of registrations.

"Prior to the coming into force of this regulation on an average, 47,454 complaints were received per month (March 2010 to March 2011)," Minister of State for Communications and IT Milind Deora stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.  Reportedly, a total of 5,979 complaints were lodged by telecom customers from September 27 to November 15, 2011.
