With a steady rise in the number of patent infringement cases, every major corporation out there is in the race for getting itself the best possible technology patented. Now, according to a PCMag report, search giant, Google has in a bid to further boost its patent portfolio bought out as many as 1,000 patents from IBM, as per records maintained by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Needless to say, these additional patents in its shopping cart would surely give Google a firmer base during its counter litigations.
Stronger now?
Although, it is certain that 1,000 patents have been acquired, Google’s total bill has been a best kept secret, so far. Just recently, we also reported about popular smartphone manufacturer, HTC getting a healthy serving of nine patents from Google, reportedly to fuel its patent infringement case against Apple. The patents acquired this time around claim to cover a wide expanse of technologies, including - desktop and server hardware, computer security, database processes, circuit design, parallel database systems and architecture, user authentication, credit card/smart card testing, among others. |
