Google paying vendors to have Android installed on TVs

| by Roydon Cerejo | General

Apparently, Neowin has gotten a whiff of some new information, which reveals that Google is, in fact paying vendors to include Android on their televisions. We don’t know who these vendors are and probably never will, but it seems like Google is pulling off all the stops in order to get their feature to the masses. One thing’s for sure, we won’t be short of Google TV-ready televisions, this CES.

LG to team up with Google to launch Google TV?

All's fair in love and tech?

Lenovo was the first to announce their new TV with Android 4.0 running seamlessly. While this may seem a bit conniving of Google; we are the ones who will benefit in the long run. If you think about it, what’s stopping Smart TVs from becoming hugely popular in India? (Besides the lack of a cheap and fast broadband, of course.) It’s the fragmentation of apps from different manufactures. With Google pushing its OS onto televisions as well, we have access to a whole library of apps at our fingertips. With Opera announcing that they plan on launching the Opera TV Store for Smart TVs, Google wants to get there before them, which would explain why they are willing to go so far, as to pay vendors to include it in their products.
