HP’s decision to shut down the phone and tablets division might have surprised many, but the acquired Palm WebOS will live on, says Senior VP, Stephen DeWitt. In an interview with Businessweek, he said that WebOS would continue development and continue to live on. HP is looking out to make deals with other phone and tablet manufacturers who might want to use WebOS as their primary platform. DeWitt said that there is a demand for user interfacing platforms and WebOS is likely to fit in well in such areas. It might end up as a product for finance, transportation and retail companies. He also said that the world didn’t revolve around just tablets and phones. ![]() Will continue development
HP is being ambitious.Their purchase of Palm for $1.2 billion should have yielded great results, but competition by other devices was probably the main reason for its demise. Choosing to sell WebOS to other companies instead of selling off the entire company means that they will be able to hold on to all of the WebOS patents. |
