Clearly, the Facebook founder is a crowd-puller - be it with the news of his recent wedding or about the company going public. A recent example of Mark Zuckerberg's popularity showed up rather unexpectedly when a post he put up on Sunday via his Facebook account about the updated iGrill app - which now comes with Facebook integration - was enough to drive hordes of visitors to the iGrill site. This unexpected inflow of visitors caused the site to go down for a good two hours. Zuckerberg's post read, "I updated my grilling app, iGrill, today and it now has Facebook integration that lets you see what other people are grilling right now around the world. Awesome. I’m making a Fred’s steak.” - (can be seen below). ![]() Zuckerberg Facebook
Elaborating a little more on the incident, CEO of iDevices, Chris Allen stated, "We had quietly released this update for our users earlier this month and were waiting for it to gain traction, but this obviously gives us a huge head start, thus a quick add on of servers and bandwidth was needed today! We are excited to see how this unfolds, but I would like to dispel the rumors that iGrill or iDevices received any investment from Mr. Zuckerberg to date, although we would welcome the opportunity to work with him, this is not something that has occurred yet.”
For those not in the know, iGrill is the first wireless cooking thermometer in the world for iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad via a long-range Bluetooth (up to 200 feet) and an app-enabled connection. With the new update to the app, users can view maps of other users around the world grilling through Facebook, and even share their information with their friends and subscribers. The app allows you to turn your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad into a personal 'sous-chef'. This way users can multitask between their grill or oven and their guests.
Those interested can purchase it off www.igrillinc.com and Apple stores across North America for $79.99. Interestingly, the company is offering free domestic shipping (up to $12.00), for which you'll have to use the code ZUCK at the time of checkout. |
