The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is the latest high profile victim following Sony, the Indian government, Citibank and various other organizations who have been hacked. It is reported that the IMF has been targeted by hackers who are believed to have connections to a foreign government and they have supposedly been able to retrieve emails and other documents.

According to the report, a memo was sent to the employees warning them to be on their guard after a computer at the IMF had been compromised. Chief Information Officer, Jonathan Palmer said in the email to its employees that last week they detected some suspicious file transfers, and the subsequent investigation established that a Fund desktop computer had been compromised and used to access some Fund systems. He went on to say that they at this point didn't have any reason to believe that any personal information was sought for fraud purposes.

The memo was apparently sent as a precautionary measure and it wasn’t connected to any hack by hacker group Anonymous who had earlier threatened an attack. The report goes on to say that On June 1st, IMF sent an email to its employees with a subject line ‘Important Notice: Virus Attacks.’ The email reads “Staff are strongly requested NOT TO OPEN emails and video links without authenticating the source.”
