South Korean company, LG.Philips LCD, has launched the world's first A4-sized color electronic-paper, which works as a paper-thin, bendable viewing panel. The 14.1-inch color e-paper uses electronic ink from E Ink to produce a maximum of 4096 colors. The company claims that images on the e-paper will always appear to be crisp, even when the display is bent, as it can be viewed from a full 180 degrees. The metal foil and plastic e-paper, capable of displaying up to 4,096 colors is 0.3 mm thin and measures 35.9 cm across its diagonal. The company said it is designed to be energy-efficient, as it uses power only when the image changes on the display. The technology behind the product is a substrate that arranges TFT on metal foil rather than glass. This allows the display to recover its original shape after being bent. This model includes a color filter (CF) that is coated into the plastic substrate, allowing it to display color images. LG Philips LCD had introduced the world's first 14.1-inch black and white flexible e-paper display in May 2006. |
