Mumbai to play host to first ever WikiConference in India

Beginning from the 18th of November, 2011, to the 20th of November, 2011, Mumbai will play host to the first ever WikiConference to take place in the country. The event, which will be hosted by the Mumbai Wikipedia Community and Wikimedia Chapter, India will see Jimmy Wales, the man himself who's the founder, open-source evangelist and Chairman Emeritus of Wikimedia foundation make a touchdown! In an official announcement it has been confirmed that the three-day long event will be all about issues that relate to India on Wikipedia, projects carried out by Wikipedia in English and Indic languages, looking out at possible partnerships and collaborations, and the role of WikiMedia in editing these, either in India or elsewhere in the world.

During the course of the event, the attendees will be exposed to discussions on several topics, which include - ‘Usage of Ajax and Jquery in Wiki’ in Technology to ‘WikiBhasha : Our Experiences with Multilingual Content’ in Enterprise  to ‘WikiWomenWeb: Bridging the Gender Gap’ to ‘ Legal Aspects of Wiki Culture’. The announcement also talks about an 'Editathon', which is being said to take place at the event, too using Wi-Fi facilities. 

 

The WikiConference, Mumbai, like mentioned above is happening from November 18th, 2011 - November 20th, 2011 at the Convocation Hall, University of Mumbai (Fort campus) and associated rooms. For more information on the WikiConference, you could check here
