New Internet Policy to Engulf Iran

30 May, 2011, 5:36 pm IST | by Anuradha Shetty | General

In a move to prove who’s got a stronger grip over Iran’s internet policies, the Iranian government has braced itself to put the policies under massive restructuring. The new policy would mean that at least virtually, Iran will fly solo.

Iranian policies have always supported internet usage in the country, and the recent pro-democratic protests that had its effects trickling down on each part of the nation will see a new wave of internet usage modes. Slowly, but steadily, the whole of Iran will come under the hood of an internal internet policy. The policy plainly means that Iran will be potentially viewing personalized content on the internet. The tale doesn’t end here. If the Iranian communication minister, Reza Taghipour has his way, then in addition to personalized content, Iran will have a personalized operating system for itself. This spells the complete ouster for Windows in the country. The new policy would also end the fears of the Iranian government of Western ideas, philosophies influencing their countrymen, in any manner.

Although, the picture is fairly uncertain now, it will be a move that will have the world’s eyes fixed on it.
