Pitney Bowes working on solutions for Indian institutions and universities

| by Naina Khedekar | General

The Indian education system is striving to keep pace with modern technology. We saw the highly anticipated, yet not-effective Aakash tablet, that primarily aimed to be an ambitious educational initiative by the government, while also offering an option for commercial buying. Recently, AICTE announced its in-house job portal and academic website to assist students and employers. Pitney Bowes has now introduced its technology in India to digitize marksheets, certificates and degrees at several Indian institutions and universities. This will help with authentication of information. Pitney Bowes are in talks with some universities and institutions; however, nothing is clear as yet.

"This is a targeted solution for the Indian market that we are developing. We are talking to some of the large educational institutions and universities in India, who may like to avail such services," said Johnna Torsone, Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer, Pitney Bowes Inc. Here again, this may help potential employers to authenticate marksheets and university degrees. Besides, the company has several other clients in India, too. It includes technology and software solutions. "Nine out of the top 10 telecom operators in the country are our customers," Manish Chaudhary,Vice president & MD, Pitney Bowes Software, India.

Chaudhary also revealed that the company will be adding more employees, as per requirement. It has around 600 employees in India and had set up the Indian office not so long ago in 2007.  "We are now focusing more on improving the quality of the existing talent, than adding new people," he added.

All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE) initiative was to bring the new digitized features for all its technical institutions. Their portal would allow students to post resumes for free, which could be linked to their certificates, so that employers can authenticate them easily. However, not much information is yet known about which institutions or universities Pitney Bowes has approached. It's just nice to know, such solutions may assist students to get in touch with employers and vice versa, easily.
