Rovio Mobile, developer of the mobile game, Angry Birds has announced that after the success of its toys, it's going to get into baby products. The company, according to reports, has sold nearly 7 million Angry Birds toys (in addition to the success of the game, of course) and according to Vice President of Franchise Development, Ville Heijari, the company gets "a sizeable proportion" of its revenue from merchandise. Imagine a bomb with eyes and a beak on your blanket
"Rovio's core business is games but licensing/merchandising is one of the fastest growing parts of the company," Heijari said. The baby products will include things like blankets and clothes, which will be adorned with the Angry Birds characters. They will be produced by a company called SwaddleDesigns. According to the SwaddleDesigns website, the products will be out in October and people who preorder their products will get a free plush toy on a $50 purchase. It sounds like a good subliminal messaging tool, "Hey kids, play our game when you're a little older!". Either way, a blanket with the birds might be fun to have. |
